Cappadocia, Turkey

 In the region of Cappadocia in Central Anatolia is known for its unusual rock formations, the "fairy chimneys", where homes were carved (in recent years some have been "converted" in hotels in the rock) . In towns such as Urgup and Goreme, you can arrange to see this surreal landscape from a hot air balloon.Underground, Cappadocia retains lot of cities in the Bronze Age, dwellings and other structures carved in the stone cliffs troglodytes, several floors down. You can visit some of these underground cities, including Derinkuyu.
